Description
Farseer is William King's 2002 standalone Warhammer 40,000 novel, following Rogue Trader Janus Darke on a journey into the Eye of Terror alongside an Eldar Farseer and his bodyguard. Once wealthy and celebrated, Janus has fallen into ruin following a disastrous expedition and is desperate enough to accept an unlikely commission from the Eldar Farseer Auric Stormcloud and his companion Athenys. Their destination is Belial IV, a world within the Eye of Terror that was once part of the Eldar empire. The Eldar seek a weapon capable of opposing a daemon prince of Slaanesh, drawing Janus into a struggle between the survivors of an ancient civilisation and one of the most terrible powers of the Warp. What begins as a desperate attempt to recover his fortunes becomes a journey into a world where the boundaries between the material universe and the Warp are increasingly uncertain. An unusual early exploration of the Eldar and the Eye of Terror, Farseer was later reissued under Black Library's Heretic Tomes banner alongside Pawns of Chaos and Space Marine, reflecting material considered outdated or inconsistent with established background lore.
