Description
Honour Guard is the fourth novel in Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts series and the opening book of the Saint story arc, sending Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt and the Tanith First-and-Only to the shrine world of Hagia. The Ghosts join the Imperial campaign to reclaim Hagia from the Infardi, a fanatical Chaos cult led by Pater Sin, but the liberation of the shrine world ends in disaster and leaves Gaunt disgraced. With a Chaos fleet approaching, he is given one final mission: recover the remains and relics of Saint Sabbat from the Sacred Hills. Accompanied by elements of the Pardus armoured regiments, the Ghosts must escort the precious relics across territory still held by the Infardi while fighting their way through the mountains. Along the way, strange events lead Gaunt and his soldiers to question whether the saint they are trying to recover may still be guiding them. A major turning point for the series, Honour Guard expands the Ghosts' cast with figures such as Viktor Hark, Lijah Cuu and Ayatani Zweil while establishing the religious and military themes that will shape the Saint arc.
