Description

Malleus is the second novel in Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn trilogy, returning to Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn a century after the events of Xenos as a catastrophic incident threatens both his reputation and his standing within the Inquisition. During the celebrations following the Ophidian Campaign, thirty-three rogue psykers escape and unleash a devastating psychic attack on the Imperial world of Thracian Primaris. Eisenhorn's investigation into the disaster soon connects it to a face from his past and to the daemonhost Cherubael. As Eisenhorn pursues the forces behind the catastrophe, suspicion turns towards the Inquisitor himself, placing him at odds with his own organisation and forcing him into a desperate struggle against enemies both within and beyond the Inquisition. Expanding Eisenhorn's story into a darker examination of Imperial authority, Malleus combines investigation, military action and daemon-hunting while beginning the transformation of its protagonist from an uncompromising servant of Imperial doctrine into a far more morally ambiguous figure.
