Description
The Guns of Tanith is the fifth novel in Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts series, sending Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt and the Tanith First-and-Only to the polluted world of Phantine as the Sabbat Worlds Crusade attempts to reclaim it from Chaos. With much of Phantine's surface rendered uninhabitable, the campaign centres on elevated cities scattered above its toxic atmosphere, forcing Imperial troops to reach the enemy by air. The Ghosts are assigned to the drop assault on Cirenholm, where the Blood Pact and their alien Loxatl mercenaries hold the city against the Imperial advance. As the campaign moves towards the fortified city of Ouranberg, selected Ghosts undergo specialist training for a dangerous mission behind enemy lines, while tensions between the Tanith and their Verghastite comrades threaten the regiment's cohesion. An unexpected investigation and bitter personal feuds further strain relations within the Ghosts. The Guns of Tanith combines large-scale airborne warfare with the increasingly complex relationships within Gaunt's regiment, while introducing the Blood Pact as one of the series' major Chaos forces.
